The Nigerian Navy has rescued several victims trapped in a building collapse at Alakija in Lagos State, reaffirming its commitment to humanitarian assistance and support for civil authorities during emergencies.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, naval personnel responded swiftly after receiving a distress call about the incident.
He said the rescue team immediately mobilised to the scene and worked alongside other emergency responders in search and rescue efforts.
The operation led to the successful rescue of several victims, including children, who were pulled from the rubble and evacuated for urgent medical attention. Photographs released after the operation showed more than 10 rescued victims receiving treatment at the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital in Ojo, Lagos.
Folorunsho said the victims were taken to the hospital, where they received emergency medical care and continue to be monitored by the hospital’s medical personnel.
“The Nigerian Navy remains committed to ensuring that those affected receive the necessary medical support,” he stated.
The Chief of the Naval Staff commended the courage, professionalism and dedication of the rescue team as well as the medical personnel at the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital for their prompt response.
He also praised the collaboration between the Nigerian Navy, other emergency response agencies and members of the public, noting that their combined efforts contributed significantly to the successful rescue operation.
The Nigerian Navy expressed sympathy to the families affected by the tragic incident and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
It also reassured Nigerians of its continued readiness to provide humanitarian assistance and support to civil authorities whenever required, in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
