Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has alleged that there is a fresh plot to prevent the party from participating in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku claimed that elements within President Bola Tinubu’s administration were pursuing political and legal strategies aimed at keeping the ADC off the ballot.
He called on party supporters and Nigerians to resist any attempt to determine which opposition parties are allowed to participate in the next general election.
According to Atiku, while the ruling party may seek to influence the political process, it should not be allowed to decide the outcome of Nigeria’s democratic system.
In a related development, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Eze Chikamnayo, also alleged that the Tinubu administration is carrying out a coordinated campaign against opposition political parties.
Speaking during an interview, Chikamnayo described last week’s judgment of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which nullified the registration of the NDC, as “notorious” and “very dangerous.”
He argued that the court’s decision raises concerns about the future of opposition politics and democratic participation in the country.
Neither the Presidency nor the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
