The Lagos State Government has commenced the removal of illegal squatters and makeshift structures along the Orile–Okokomaiko corridor of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway as part of efforts to restore order and improve environmental conditions.
The development was disclosed on Monday in a repost shared by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Muyiwa Gbadegesin, on his official X account.
According to the repost, the exercise is being carried out by a joint enforcement team tasked with sanitising the expressway corridor and removing unauthorised occupants.
The operation targets shanties and temporary structures erected on the median of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, as well as other illegal structures within the corridor.

State authorities said the clearance exercise is aimed at improving public safety, enhancing environmental sanitation and ensuring the free flow of traffic along one of Lagos’ busiest highways.
The repost noted that the operation reflects the state government’s commitment to maintaining environmental standards, enforcing urban planning regulations and preserving public order across Lagos.
The enforcement exercise was still ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
