The Ogun State Government has assured residents that it has taken proactive measures to mitigate the impact of flooding expected during the peak of the rainy season.
The Commissioner for Environment, Oladimeji Oresanya, said the state had carried out extensive flood control measures, including the dredging of the Oparo River, which connects to the Ogun River at Isheri, to improve water flow and reduce the risk of flooding.
“We have made preparations, dredging the Oparo River adjoining the Ogun River at Isheri to allow reticulation,” Oresanya said.
He added that the government is fully prepared to manage the anticipated heavy rains and possible flooding expected between the end of September and October.
“We are more than prepared for the challenge coming around the end of September to the month of October,” the commissioner stated.

The commissioner also confirmed plans to relocate the Kara Cattle Market from its current location to Ogere following the necessary approvals.
The Commissioner for Environment, Oladimeji Oresanya, disclosed that the relocation process is set to move forward, stating that the government has already secured approval for the exercise.

The commissioner did not provide a specific timeline for the relocation but indicated that the move forms part of the state’s ongoing environmental and urban management efforts.
