President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to launch a comprehensive investigation into the activities of the fictitious Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, ordering the anti-graft agency to submit its findings within 30 days.
The directive was disclosed on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement titled “President Tinubu Orders ICPC to Investigate Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.”
According to the statement, the investigation follows the discovery that the so-called council was never established by the Federal Government and has no legal backing, presidential approval, executive instrument or any other lawful basis.
President Tinubu also directed the ICPC to investigate the alleged forgery of appointment letters and other official government documents reportedly used by Adeniyi Adeyemi Mathew, who allegedly presented himself as the Director-General of the non-existent council and falsely claimed to be a presidential appointee.
The Presidency maintained that the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council is not recognised by the Federal Government and urged the anti-corruption agency to thoroughly unravel the circumstances surrounding its operations and those connected to it.
