Spanish champions Barcelona have strengthened their attacking line with the signing of German forward Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund in a deal reportedly worth €29 million, including performance-related add-ons. The La Liga giants confirmed on Thursday that the 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2031.
Adeyemi becomes Barcelona’s second major signing of the summer transfer window following the arrival of England international Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. His addition comes as the Catalan club reshapes its attack after the departure of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, while Marcus Rashford also returned to Manchester United following the expiration of his loan spell, leaving Barcelona in need of more firepower.
Known for his blistering pace, versatility and ability to play as a central striker or on either wing, Adeyemi is expected to provide coach Hansi Flick with greater attacking options as Barcelona prepare to defend their domestic title and compete in Europe. Flick, who handed Adeyemi his senior Germany debut in 2021, is familiar with the forward’s qualities and is expected to play a key role in his development at the club.
Adeyemi joined Borussia Dortmund from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in 2022 and went on to score 36 goals in 146 appearances across all competitions during his four-year spell in Germany. Despite securing the German international’s signature, Barcelona are still looking to further reinforce their frontline and have reportedly submitted a bid for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, who remains the club’s primary attacking target this summer.
