The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure re-election in the 2027 general election, describing the contest as “a coronation rather than an election.”
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Keyamo said the All Progressives Congress (APC) would retain power, arguing that the Tinubu administration’s performance had earned widespread public support across the country.
The minister dismissed the electoral prospects of the leading opposition figures, including Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). According to him, demographic realities strongly favour President Tinubu and make victory for the opposition unlikely.
“I want to make a profound closing statement—not out of arrogance or overconfidence, but out of pure demographic calculations. The 2027 election is a coronation, not an election,” Keyamo said. He added that he could not see where Peter Obi would secure enough votes to defeat the incumbent president.
Keyamo maintained that the APC remains well-positioned to win the 2027 presidential election, insisting that the achievements of the current administration would translate into electoral success at the polls.
