The Lagos State Government has arrested a suspect for allegedly vandalising a concrete barrier at Kosofe Bus Stop, Mile 12, along Ikorodu Road. The barrier was installed to prevent pedestrians from crossing the expressway at unauthorised points and reduce the risk of road accidents.
The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the arrest in a post on X on Saturday. He said the suspect was apprehended during monitoring and enforcement operations carried out by government officials the previous day.
According to Wahab, the suspect was caught deliberately removing iron rods, cables, steel reinforcements and other structural components from the barrier. He said the removal of these materials could weaken the structure and undermine its purpose of protecting pedestrians and other road users.
Wahab said the suspect had been arrested and would be prosecuted in accordance with the law. He added that the enforcement action demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and ensuring the safety of residents and road users.
The arrest comes amid growing concerns over the vandalism of public infrastructure across Lagos State. Authorities have warned that the removal of metal components from public structures compromises safety and leads to the loss of government resources, while Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has also directed the arrest and prosecution of suspected vandals.
