The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has appealed to aviation unions to suspend their ongoing industrial action and return to negotiations, as the dispute continues to disrupt flight operations and inconvenience passengers across the country.
NCAA Director-General, Chris Najomo, said the peace meeting convened by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, last week could not hold because airline operators failed to attend. He urged the unions to exercise restraint while the minister works to resolve the dispute.
The industrial action has led to the shutdown of operations by Air Peace, Nigeria’s largest airline, leaving several passengers stranded at airports. The NCAA called on all parties to embrace dialogue, assuring travellers that aviation safety remained uncompromised and that normal flight operations would resume as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Air Peace apologised to affected passengers, describing the disruption as temporary and beyond its control. The airline said passengers scheduled to travel later in the day were being contacted with updates as it monitored developments.
