The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi over an alleged threat against members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, was reportedly invited by the Commissioner of Police overseeing election security in the state, Samuel Etaifo.
The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the development in a telephone interview with *The PUNCH* on Wednesday.
“I can confirm that he (Fadahunsi) has been summoned by the CP. We will make a statement available regarding it,” Ojelabi said.
The senator came under criticism following a video circulated on social media in which he allegedly threatened members of the Accord Party during a gathering in Ilesa.
Speaking in Yoruba, Fadahunsi was heard warning that any Accord Party member seen in Ilesa before Saturday’s election would be killed.
The incident reportedly occurred at the palace of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland during a protest over the alleged killing of three members of the All Progressives Congress in Ilesa on Tuesday.
In the video, Fadahunsi was heard saying, “How many people have you seen the APC kill? We are here to tell you that until the day of the election, if we see any Accord member in Ilesa, we will kill them.”
The remarks have heightened concerns over political tensions in Osun as parties prepare for the August 15 governorship election.
Fadahunsi is also a prominent member of the APC, while Francis Eniade, the party’s candidate for the Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo Otin Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, was reportedly also criticised in connection with the incident.
The police invitation comes amid heightened security preparations across Osun, with authorities warning political actors and their supporters against actions capable of triggering violence before, during or after the election.
