The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has announced plans to host the Lagos State Food Safety Conference and Exhibition 2026, an initiative aimed at mobilising residents and stakeholders across the food value chain toward improved food safety, disease prevention and public health protection.
The conference is scheduled to hold on September 8, 2026, at NECA House, Alausa-Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, Esq., the event will bring together policymakers, public health experts, food scientists, regulators, market associations, industry players and consumers to address emerging food safety challenges.
Themed “From Burden to Solutions: Safe Food Everywhere,” the conference will focus on strengthening compliance with international food safety standards and promoting a culture of prevention rather than reaction.
Participants will discuss issues including hazard analysis, safe food handling, packaging integrity and the prevention of foodborne illnesses.
The event will also feature keynote addresses, technical sessions, live cooking demonstrations, food testing exhibitions and interactive workshops.
LASCOPA said participants will have the opportunity to learn about emerging innovations in food safety technology and monitoring systems.
The conference is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to share knowledge, identify practical solutions and strengthen collaboration across the food production, processing, distribution and consumption chain.
Speaking ahead of the event, Solebo stressed that protecting consumers from unsafe food requires the collective efforts of government, businesses and members of the public.
“Food safety is not the responsibility of the government alone. It is a shared obligation that begins at the farm, continues through processing and distribution, and ends at the consumer’s table.”
Solebo urged residents, food vendors, manufacturers and other stakeholders to join the initiative and contribute to making Lagos a model for food safety in Nigeria and Africa.
The Agency said distinguished speakers expected at the conference include Dr. Adeniyi Adedayo Odugbemi, Global Director of Quality and Food Safety, and Dr. Nurah Oseni of the Food Technology Department, Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.
The conference aligns with the Lagos State Government’s broader public health agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
Solebo reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to strengthening consumer protection enforcement, public education and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure that only safe, wholesome and properly labelled food products reach consumers across Lagos.
He invited homemakers, restaurant operators, school food vendors, supermarket owners and agricultural producers to participate actively in the conference and exhibition.
