The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) has organised a one-day capacity-building programme for officers in its Monitoring and Compliance Unit on safety precautions and first aid response during enforcement operations.
The training, held recently at the LASPPPA Conference Room, was designed to equip officers with the knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively manage emergencies and casualties that may arise during field operations.
In his welcome address, the General Manager of LASPPPA, Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike, urged participants to actively engage in the training and apply the knowledge gained in the discharge of their duties. He stressed that safety protocols should not be taken lightly, particularly in unforeseen circumstances.
Facilitating the session, Tpl. Aka Folake of the Nigerian Red Cross Society explained that first aid involves the immediate and temporary care given to an injured or ill person before professional medical assistance becomes available.
She emphasised the importance of ensuring a hazard-free environment, maintaining personal hygiene and using appropriate personal protective equipment to safeguard both responders and casualties.
Folake also noted that continuous monitoring of a casualty’s condition until medical personnel arrive is essential for the effective management of sudden changes in the person’s condition.
The training concluded with practical demonstrations on the proper application of safety measures and first aid procedures, aimed at strengthening officers’ preparedness and response during field operations.
