The governorship candidate of the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Adetokunbo Pearse, has accused the governorship candidate of the Nyesom Wike-led faction, Adedeji Doherty, of allegedly diverting N1.1 billion from campaign funds released by the party’s national leadership during the 2023 governorship election.
Pearse claimed that approximately $2.7 million was released by the PDP’s national leadership to its Lagos State chapter for the election.
He accused Doherty, Abdul-Azeez Adediran and Tope Animashaun of allegedly diverting campaign funds and acting as “double agents” to undermine the party’s efforts during the election.
According to Pearse, Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Obafemi Hamzat had disclosed that Doherty was allegedly paid by the APC during the 2023 election to work against the PDP candidate, Adediran.
Pearse linked the alleged actions to the PDP’s defeat in the election, arguing that the party’s internal sabotage contributed to its poor performance.
He maintained that he has documentary records relating to the campaign funds because he was responsible for handling the relevant documents at the time.
Pearse said he was prepared to substantiate his allegations with what he described as tangible evidence.
