The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement in Oyo State, Abimbola Adekanmbi, has rejected claims that he is a political surrogate of Governor Seyi Makinde.
Adekanmbi, a former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance, stated this during an interview with Arise News on Tuesday, insisting that he would operate with his own agenda and leadership strategy if elected governor in 2027.
He said he would take full responsibility for his decisions and actions in office, adding that he was not prepared to inherit the political liabilities or opponents of the incumbent administration.
“I’m no surrogate to Governor Makinde. The governor made it clear that I shouldn’t inherit his enemies or liabilities.
“I’m owning every action I take as governor, just as I have always owned my actions in life. I own it, and I’m prepared. I have my own manifesto and strategy,” he said.
Adekanmbi also explained that the emergence of candidates for various elective positions in the state was not determined solely by Makinde.
According to him, the process followed consultations and public engagements involving stakeholders from different sectors and regions of Oyo State.
He maintained that the approach allowed wider participation in the selection process rather than leaving decisions exclusively in the hands of the governor.
