Former chairman of Ido-Osi Local Government, Dr Sola Ogunshina, says the economic situation in many states has improved significantly compared with previous years.
Speaking on Adamimogo 107.7FM’s Follow Up on Tuesday, Dr Ogunshina said governments had created an environment for economic growth, but individuals also had a role to play in the country’s development.
On local government autonomy, he said the effectiveness of local councils in some areas was largely due to the support and involvement of state governments.
The elder statesman who further argued that Nigeria’s constitutional structure does not provide for complete independence of local governments said while councils have been granted autonomy, state governments should still monitor their activities.
On the 2027 presidential election, Dr Ogunshina said he would support the incumbent, President Bola Tinubu, unless a better alternative emerges.
