The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, has ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged serious assault, abduction and subsequent death of one Ogunsakin Sunday ’45yrs’, a resident of Afao-Ekiti, allegedly perpetrated by one Rotimi Joseph Olabiowonu, a.k.a. “METILO,” former Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Ekiti State Chapter, and some members of his gang, arising from a land dispute.
This was contained in a statement signed and made available to journalists by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu.
According to the statement, it was alleged that on 14th September 2026, at about 8:45PM, METILO and some of his accomplices, numbering about five, arrived at the residence of the deceased in a Toyota bus, allegedly dragged him out, assaulted him and whisked him away in the vehicle to an unknown destination.
The statement added that while the vehicle was in motion, the suspects pushed the victim out of the moving vehicle, causing him to sustain severe head injuries. Upon noticing the seriousness of his condition, the suspects allegedly took him to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) for medical attention. However, he was subsequently confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty.
It said the principal suspect has been arrested alongside one of his alleged gang members, Adedoyin Opeyemi, and currently under custody undergoing investigation while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other members of the gang who are currently at large.
Abutu said the Commissioner of Police directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case and conduct a comprehensive investigation, urging members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, but rather report disputes, suspicious activities and criminal incidents promptly to the police or other appropriate authorities for necessary action.
