Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed his condolences to veteran actress Joke Silva, the family, friends and colleagues of renowned Nollywood actor, Oludotun Bayegun Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, following his death.
Sanwo-Olu, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, described the death of the 84-year-old actor as a significant loss to Nigeria’s creative industry and the country at large.
The governor said Jacobs’ legacy would endure through his extensive body of work and the memories he created throughout his illustrious career.
According to him, the late actor’s contributions to the Nigerian creative industry would remain evergreen.
Sanwo-Olu described Jacobs as one of the respected fathers of Nollywood, noting that the veteran actor and filmmaker appeared in numerous British and Nigerian television series and films during his career.
He said Jacobs played a major role in shaping Nigeria’s theatre, television and film industries for more than five decades.
“His extraordinary life and lasting impact through his artistry have solidified his legacy,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu added that Jacobs would be greatly missed by his family, friends, fans, associates and the countless admirers of his talent and contribution to Nigerian entertainment.
The governor prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his family, colleagues and members of the creative industry the strength to bear the loss.
He also urged them to draw comfort from and continue to honour the enduring legacy left behind by the celebrated actor.
