The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved N6.765 billion for the construction of new hospital buildings at the General Hospitals in Ikogosi-Ekiti, Awo-Ekiti, and Ipao-Ekiti.
The approval was part of decisions taken at the Council’s seventh meeting of 2026, held on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti, to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve access to quality medical services across the state.
The three projects, valued at N2.255 billion each, are expected to be completed within 10 months.
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, the new hospital facilities will include female and male wards, maternity and delivery suites, a children’s ward, mortuary, theatre, laboratory, consulting rooms, staff quarters, gate house, and administrative block.
The statement said the contracts were awarded through the Selective Procurement Method, in accordance with the Ekiti State Public Procurement (Re-enactment) Law No. 4 of 2020, and were aimed at expanding and modernising healthcare facilities and strengthening the health system’s capacity to meet the needs of residents in the benefiting communities and adjoining areas.
The Council also approved N1.681 billion for the upgrading and rehabilitation of 104 high-yielding boreholes into reticulated, solar-powered water facilities across Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas, under the World Bank-supported Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH) Programme.
The projects, expected to be completed within four weeks, followed an open competitive bidding process that attracted 167 bids for 52 lots. The Council approved the selection of 52 contractors, with each assigned a lot comprising two borehole facilities.
It also approved N296.218 million for the bulk purchase of 104 solar-powered water pumps for the boreholes, to be supplied by Messrs Jovak Nigeria Ltd., an accredited distributor of Grundfos Water Solutions Nigeria Ltd., within four weeks.
Under road infrastructure, the Council approved N1.094 billion for the construction of 400 metres of Olajiga Street, Egbewa, and 915 metres of the GRA 3rd Extension (Ifesowapo–Ibi Oluwatoba Avenue–Ori Apata Roads) in Ado-Ekiti.
The project, which includes earthworks, drainage, pavement construction, and asphalt laying, is expected to be completed within 12 months.
The Council further approved N340.612 million for the construction of a one-kilometre access road from the threshold of Runway 21 to the CVOR Navigation Aid Site at the Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, Ado-Ekiti.
The project is expected to be completed within three months and is intended to provide all-weather access to the navigation aid facility, addressing infrastructure requirements for the airport’s operational readiness.
Similarly, N155.350 million was approved for Phase II of the Afao-Ekiti Streetlight Project and the installation of solar-powered streetlights at strategic locations within Government House, Ado-Ekiti.
The project, to be executed by the Ekiti State Electricity Board through direct labour, is expected to be completed within three months.
The Council also approved N448.074 million for the provision of office equipment for the Ministry of Special Duties and the replacement of worn-out furniture at the Presidential Lodge and its Extension, with delivery expected within four weeks.
The statement said the decisions reflected the administration’s focus on improving healthcare, water supply, road infrastructure, aviation facilities, public safety, and institutional capacity.
