The Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has suspended its indefinite strike following a review of the security situation in the state.
The teachers had embarked on the industrial action after the abduction of schoolchildren in Orire Local Government Area, citing concerns over the safety of pupils and the need for improved security measures in schools across the state.
In a statement jointly signed by the state NUT chairman, Hassan Fatai, and secretary, Olukayode Salami, the union said the decision to suspend the strike followed consultations and appeals from the Oyo State Government and other relevant stakeholders.
The union explained that it reviewed the prevailing security situation before deciding to call off the strike, thereby allowing teachers to resume academic activities in schools across the state.
The development is expected to restore normalcy to public schools in Oyo State after days of disruption caused by the industrial action.
