Ekiti State Government has charged the newly sworn-in caretaker committee of the Okada Riders Association, Ekiti State Chapter, to build on the existing peace in the state and cooperate with the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to sustain the achievements recorded in the state.
The government gave the charge during the swearing-in ceremony of the caretaker committee in Ado-Ekiti, where the members formally assumed responsibility for the affairs of the association.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who was represented at the occasion by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Kehinde Ajobiewe, urged members of the association to remain peaceful and support the efforts of the government to maintain law and order across the state.
The governor said his administration would continue to create an enabling environment for unions and associations to operate effectively and contribute to the socio-economic development of Ekiti State.
He appealed to aggrieved members of the association to embrace dialogue and peaceful resolution of differences, stressing the need for unity and cooperation among Okada riders.
In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the newly inaugurated caretaker committee, Mr Kunle Asaolu, appreciated Governor Oyebanji for his support for the association and promised that the committee would work in line with the policies of the state government.
The Secretary of the committee, Mr Gbenga Alade, also expressed appreciation to the state government for the confidence reposed in the new leadership and promised that the committee would work to advance the interests of members.
Other members of the caretaker committee include Olowuro Sunday, Saka Salami, Ajibade Ojo, Ademola Omotuyi, Ayodeji Jegede, Lukman Saka, Joseph Emmanuel, Oloruntola Idowu and Agboola Emmanuel.
The inauguration followed the dissolution of the former executive of the Okada Riders Association by the state government after protests by some members of the union.
