The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening primary healthcare delivery, describing Primary Healthcare Centres as the backbone of a resilient and inclusive health system.
The Permanent Secretary, Health District III, Dr Monsurat Adeleke, stated this during the commissioning of Adesalu Primary Healthcare Centre in Onosa, Ibeju-Lekki.
Adeleke said the commissioning marked an important milestone in expanding access to essential healthcare services across the district. She said the facility would support safe deliveries, healthy childhood development and reliable healthcare for residents.
According to her, the newly commissioned centre will operate for eight hours daily and provide antenatal care, routine child immunisation, family planning, nutrition counselling and primary medical treatment. She added that patients requiring critical care would be referred through established links to 24-hour healthcare facilities.
The Permanent Secretary urged healthcare workers at the centre to maintain high standards of clinical care, confidentiality and patient dignity. She also called on community leaders, traditional rulers and residents to take ownership of the facility by utilising its services and protecting its infrastructure.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Engr Sesan Olowa, said the facility was handed over to the council by the state government a year ago, after which the council provided modern equipment to make it fully operational.
Olowa said the centre demonstrated what could be achieved through effective grassroots collaboration and investment in healthcare. He added that the facility had been equipped with hospital beds, specialised delivery couches and clinical examination tables designed to improve patient comfort and healthcare delivery.
