The Oyo State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Shrafadeen Alli has appealed for the unconditional release of prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from the state abducted in Imo State while travelling to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Abia State.
Alli, in a statement, described the incident as disturbing, saying the victims were young graduates travelling to undertake their national service and posed no threat to anyone. He appealed to those holding the prospective corps members to release them unconditionally, while expressing solidarity with their families.
“I appeal to those holding these young Nigerians to release them unconditionally. They are innocent graduates, sons and daughters of families who are now living in unbearable pain, fear and anxiety,” he said.
Alli noted that the NYSC scheme was established to promote national unity and integration, stressing that prospective corps members should not become victims while answering the call to serve their country.
He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to locate and rescue the abducted graduates safely. The APC candidate also called for stronger security measures along major inter-state routes, especially those frequently used by prospective corps members and other travellers, to prevent similar incidents. He said Nigerians should be able to travel for education, employment and national service without fear for their lives.
