The African Action Congress, AAC, has officially commenced its campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a one-million-man march in Yaba, Lagos.
Speaking after the one million march, the party’s presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, outlined some of the policies he said an AAC government would pursue if elected.
Sowore said the party would reverse the fuel subsidy removal, decentralise Nigeria’s security architecture and reform the country’s foreign policy.
He also rejected calls for a regional system of government, arguing that a properly administered federal system remains suitable for Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the AAC governorship candidate in Lagos State, Oluwadamilola Adesola Sol-Nuyi, promised free education and uninterrupted electricity for residents of the state.
Sol-Nuyi said the party would deploy technology, particularly solar power, to provide electricity to households and reduce dependence on electricity distribution companies.
Also speaking, the AAC Chairman in Lagos State, Olanrewaju Samson, urged voters to protect their votes and ensure that their ballots count during the 2027 elections.
Samson alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had been compromised by the ruling party and expressed doubts about the commission’s ability to conduct a free and fair election.
The AAC also pledged to tackle corruption and fraud, with party leaders saying those found culpable would face the justice system.
The campaign flag-off marks the beginning of the party’s mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
