The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers across the state as part of activities marking this year’s World Teachers’ Day.
The declaration was contained in a circular issued on Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Musibau Babatunde.
The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Media, Sulaimon Olarenwaju, said the decision was aimed at recognising the contribution of teachers to the state’s education system and human capital development.
According to him, the gesture reflects the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare, dignity and professional development of teachers.
The government said the day off would allow teachers to participate fully in activities organised to mark the occasion, assess developments in the education sector and strengthen unity among members of the teaching profession.
It congratulated teachers across the state and reaffirmed its commitment to policies and programmes designed to improve teaching and learning.
The decision by Oyo follows similar declarations by the Kwara and Ekiti State governments, which also approved Monday as a work-free day for teachers to commemorate World Teachers’ Day.
