The West African Examinations Council has formally appointed Suleiman Kum as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office.
Kum, 56, takes over from Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure ended on October 1, 2026. Dangut has since assumed office as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of WAEC.
The council confirmed Kum’s appointment in a statement issued on Sunday by its Head of Public Affairs, Nigeria, Moyosola Adesina.
Before his elevation, Kum served as Deputy Registrar in the office of the Head of the Nigeria National Office and was also Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration.
Described by WAEC as a seasoned test developer, administrator and executive, Kum joined the council on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II.
During his career, he was credited with leading several technology-driven reforms in the examination system.
These included the introduction of Variable Data Printing and enhanced code-security features in security printing, as well as the replacement of council-wide attendance systems with facial-recognition biometric devices.
Kum also played a key role in the transition to computer-based examinations, leading the implementation of Achievement Tests through the Computer-Based Examination mode.
His appointment comes as WAEC continues to expand the use of technology in examination administration, security and assessment across Nigeria.
