The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned candidates against accepting admission offers outside its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), saying such offers may not be recognised as valid.
The board issued the warning in a post on X on Monday, urging prospective students to verify their admission status on CAPS before accepting any offer.
JAMB cautioned that accepting admission outside the approved process could jeopardise candidates’ academic plans and create complications with their admission records and related procedures.
The warning was issued as part of the board’s JAMB Explained series, which addresses illegal admissions, their consequences and measures candidates can take to protect themselves.
According to JAMB, CAPS was developed to automate admissions into tertiary institutions, allowing candidates to check their admission status and accept or reject provisional offers while enabling institutions to process admissions through the approved system.
The board’s 2026 admission guidelines state that all admission offers must be processed through JAMB and made available on its e-Facility platform.
The guidelines further state that admission offers made by tertiary institutions without a JAMB admission letter are illegal and will not be recognised by the board.
JAMB also warned that candidates who accept admission outside CAPS do so at their own risk, adding that it would neither recognise nor condone such admissions.
The board advised prospective students to verify their admission status through official channels before taking any steps, stressing the importance of following the approved admission process.
