The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count charge filed by the Federal Government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of impersonating the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC.
The presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Umar, struck out the case following an application by the prosecution for the charges to be discontinued ahead of Adeyemi’s fresh arraignment before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
Prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed the case file and identified issues with the existing charges.
He explained that the alleged forged documents involved in the case fell within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court, rather than the Federal High Court.
Oyedepo also informed the court that a fresh charge had been filed at the FCT High Court and urged the judge to strike out the existing case.
Following no objection from Adeyemi’s lawyer, Ibrahim Angulu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Justice Umar granted the application.
