President Bola Tinubu has urged Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji to consolidate on the achievements of his first term and fulfil his promises to the people, describing his re-election as a reward for his administration’s performance.
Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, spoke on Friday in Ado-Ekiti during Oyebanji’s inauguration for a second term alongside his deputy, Monisade Afuye. He said the renewed mandate placed greater responsibility on the governor to deliver improved governance and ensure public resources translate into tangible benefits for residents.
The President described Oyebanji’s re-election as a demonstration of democratic accountability, noting that a second mandate reflected the judgement of voters who had experienced the administration. He also congratulated the governor and his deputy, urging them to prioritise the interests of Ekiti State above political differences.
Tinubu thanked Ekiti residents for supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that the party’s electoral successes reflected public understanding of the economic reforms being pursued by his administration to secure Nigeria’s economic future.
In his inaugural address, Oyebanji pledged to focus on job creation, agriculture, electricity, education, healthcare, infrastructure, industrialisation and youth development over the next four years.
The governor said his administration would consolidate investments in road construction and rehabilitation, electricity infrastructure, healthcare facilities and education, with emphasis on translating these projects into improved living standards, reduced economic hardship and greater opportunities for residents.
He said the success of his second term would be measured by the extent to which government investments improved people’s lives, strengthened businesses, created decent jobs and enhanced family security.
Oyebanji also urged Ekiti residents to support Tinubu and Shettima’s re-election bid in the 2027 presidential election, arguing that the continuation of the APC-led Federal Government was important to the state’s development.
Earlier, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele described Oyebanji’s re-election as a historic milestone in Ekiti State’s 30-year history, noting that no governor had previously secured two consecutive terms since the state was created.
The inauguration was attended by governors, ministers, former governors and traditional rulers, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
