Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has charged 1,800 graduating law enforcement officers to uphold integrity, discipline, professionalism and respect for the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.
Sanwo-Olu gave the charge through the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, at the 2026 passing-out parade of the Lagos State Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI), held at the Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo, on Thursday.
The officers, drawn from seven agencies, including the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Central Business District (CBD), Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) and Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), completed their mandatory in-service training.
The governor stressed that effective law enforcement goes beyond the exercise of authority, noting that fairness, accountability and respect for citizens’ rights were essential to building public trust. He urged the officers to exercise restraint, obey the law and demonstrate professionalism in their daily responsibilities.
He also commended LETI for strengthening officers’ capacity through continuous training, adding that Lagos needed competent, disciplined and technologically proficient personnel to address the challenges of a rapidly growing urban environment.
Sanwo-Olu called on residents, businesses and community leaders to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by obeying lawful directives, respecting public regulations and protecting public infrastructure. He, however, emphasised that officers must reciprocate public cooperation with fairness and accountability.
Earlier, LETI’s Head and Chief Executive Officer, Taiwo Bonnie, said the training was designed to improve officers’ professional competence and prepare them for modern law enforcement demands.
She disclosed that the programme covered law enforcement, technology, teamwork, inter-agency collaboration, health and wellness, stress management, first-response skills, physical fitness and field exercises.
Bonnie urged the officers to apply the knowledge acquired with integrity, courage and fairness, stressing that their conduct would determine the level of public respect they command. She also reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to continuous professional development.
The Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Hameed Olanrewaju Oyenuga, alongside government officials, security agency representatives and other stakeholders, attended the ceremony.
