The African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of using repeated court proceedings to distract and frustrate his political activities ahead of the campaign season.

Sowore, in a statement, alleged that the cases were deliberately designed to prevent him from campaigning, insisting that neither intimidation nor persecution would stop him from pursuing his political ambitions.

“They don’t want me to campaign, hence these relentless, day-to-day court proceedings, which are deliberately designed to distract and frustrate me. But they will fail, as usual. No amount of intimidation or persecution will stop me!” he said.

The AAC candidate also criticised the Department of State Services (DSS), accusing the national security agency of being used to target dissenting voices under the Tinubu administration.

Questioning the president’s handling of dissent, Sowore alleged that the government was attempting to suppress criticism rather than address concerns about its performance.

He also condemned the reported arrest of a citizen over the online publication of a document, describing the incident as troubling.

Sowore warned that government officials would eventually be held accountable for their actions, declaring that a day of reckoning was approaching.

In a separate criticism, the AAC candidate faulted prison officials at the Federal High Court over what he described as their handling of journalists covering court proceedings.

He maintained that the Federal High Court was a public institution and not the private property of prison officials, stressing that journalists had a legitimate responsibility to report court proceedings and activities around the courthouse.

Sowore called on prison officials to respect press freedom and refrain from imposing undue restrictions on media coverage of individuals entering and leaving the court.

His remarks add to his criticism of the Tinubu administration over what he portrays as attempts to restrict political opposition, freedom of expression and independent journalism.
