Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed reports of an agreement with the All Progressives Congress
Adeleke, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, described the reports circulating on social media as false and misleading, insisting that the political understanding between the coalition partners was strictly focused on securing the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
The reports had alleged that a deal with the Presidency involved the sharing of local government positions, as well as seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and Osun State House of Assembly between the Accord and the APC.
However, the governor maintained that no such agreement had been reached, stressing that all legislative positions would remain open to competition among political parties. He also declared his commitment to campaigning for Accord candidates in the National and State Assembly elections.
Adeleke explained that his involvement in the coalition was limited to the presidential election, adding that political parties within the arrangement were free to present their candidates for other elective positions and seek the support of voters.
He further assured that the lingering local government crisis in Osun State would be resolved before the end of the year. According to him, ongoing negotiations were aimed at protecting the interests of all stakeholders, including APC chairmen and elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen and councillors, while restoring grassroots governance.
The governor also insisted that the coalition, popularly referred to as the Rainbow Coalition and championed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, would not create confusion among voters in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
Adeleke restated his position on Thursday while inaugurating a campaign committee for the re-election of Osun West Senator, Lere Oyewumi, in Ede. He was represented at the event by his deputy, Kola Adewusi.
The governor described Oyewumi as a capable representative, commending his contributions to the development of Osun West Senatorial District. He urged members of the campaign committee to demonstrate total commitment towards securing victory for the Accord candidate.
In his remarks, Oyewumi expressed confidence in his re-election bid, attributing the growing acceptance of the Accord in Osun to Adeleke’s leadership and performance. He said his experience in the Senate over the past three and a half years had better equipped him to serve his constituents.
The senator also promised to intensify development efforts across Osun West, particularly in road infrastructure, education, healthcare, access to clean water and the provision of solar-powered streetlights.
