The Lagos State Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Muyideen Abayomi Daramola, says the foundation laid by President Bola Tinubu during his tenure as governor remains a major factor behind the development strides recorded by Lagos State.
Speaking at an empowerment programme in Iru Local Council Development Area, Daramola acknowledged that some Nigerians may not immediately appreciate the difficult but necessary decisions taken by the President, expressing confidence that history would remember him for what he described as the courage to redirect the country towards the right path.
He also blamed the perceived failure of some government empowerment programmes on what he described as the insincerity of certain beneficiaries.
Daramola, who dismissed claims that government is insensitive to the plight of the people, said such perceptions overlook efforts being made at different levels to improve livelihoods.
He alleged that some beneficiaries divert funds meant for business development, while others sell equipment provided through empowerment schemes or fail to invest in viable ventures.
He therefore urged Nigerians to make judicious use of empowerment support by investing in profitable businesses, noting that such initiatives could promote financial independence and enable beneficiaries to contribute to the national economy.
The APC chieftain also cautioned government officials against diverting funds earmarked for beneficiaries or compelling them to surrender part of the money for any reason.
He described such practices as counterproductive and an affront to the goodwill of government, warning that they undermine the purpose of empowerment programmes.
