Organisers of the 2026 Ikorodu-Oga Fanti Carnival assured residents and visitors of adequate security and effective traffic management during the cultural celebration held on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
The assurance was given at a stakeholders’ press conference organised by Ikorodu Parapo in collaboration with the Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS) and other relevant stakeholders at the Ikorodu Town Hall.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Adedayo Ladega, disclosed that more than 800 security personnel would be deployed to maintain law and order throughout the celebration.
He also announced that the council, in collaboration with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), had developed alternative traffic arrangements to minimise congestion and ensure smooth movement for residents and commuters.
The Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps Commander and Chief Security Officer of the carnival, Sanni Ibrahim, disclosed that roads along designated procession routes would be closed to vehicular movement between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
He identified Aga Parapo, Ijomu Parapo and Cele Alaro United as the three participating groups, with their respective processions scheduled to terminate at the Ikorodu Roundabout.
Ibrahim explained that Aga Parapo would proceed through Gbasemo, Aga Junction, Ireshe Road, Ita-Elewa, Oriwu Road, Ojugbe and Ayangbure Road.
Ijomu Parapo would move through Obale, Ota-Ona, Itupate and Alhaji Street, while Cele Alaro United would proceed through Orita Maluti, Ejina, Itunmoja, Sabo and Sagamu Road.
Representing the Federal Road Safety Corps, Olufunke Akinpelu assured motorists of the agency’s collaboration with other security and traffic management authorities to ensure road safety.
Meanwhile, IKODASS Chairman, Alhaji Kolawole Odufodunrin, described the Fanti Carnival as an important cultural platform for promoting Ikorodu’s heritage and strengthening unity among residents.
He said the growing recognition of the carnival reflected the community’s determination to develop the celebration into a major tourism attraction with visibility across Lagos State and beyond.
Odufodunrin also appealed to media organisations to provide adequate publicity for the event before, during and after the celebration.
In his remarks, Chairman of Ikorodu Parapo, Comrade Pelumi Olamilekan, commended the local government chairman and other stakeholders for their support towards achieving the vision.
Ladega, on his part, described the carnival as an avenue to engage young people through culture, promote peaceful coexistence and showcase Ikorodu’s cultural identity to a wider audience.
The carnival is also expected to feature musical performances by popular artistes, including K1 De Ultimate, Barry Jhay, Alao Malaika, Atawewe, Slimcase, Jesse King, DJ Cora and Folami, popularly known as Kodu Boy.
The 2026 Ikorodu-Oga Fanti Carnival forms part of the broader Ikorodu-Oga cultural celebration, which seeks to preserve the community’s heritage, strengthen communal bonds and position Ikorodu as a destination for cultural tourism.
