President Bola Tinubu on Friday took a swipe at opposition presidential candidates Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, questioning their leadership qualities and track records during an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Akwa Ibom State.
Addressing party supporters, the President mocked the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, over what he described as the former Anambra State governor’s inability to address the erosion crisis in the state during his tenure.
Although he did not mention Obi by name, Tinubu drew a sharp contrast between his own record in Lagos and Obi’s time in Anambra.
“There is one who said he is in one party they call NDC, who is running for president. He ran away from erosion in Anambra State. And he said he wants to be a president. Which president?” Tinubu asked.
“He could not confront erosion. I, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I confronted the Atlantic Ocean, I tamed it for you. Governor Umo Eno confronted the erosion in Akwa Ibom and he is working for you, he is stable,” he added.
The President also took aim at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, questioning his political loyalty and leadership capacity.
“They [the opposition] lack the leadership and character. If a man that once upon a time was a baby of the PDP, became a father of the PDP and, because of a little inconvenience, he ran away from that party and formed a dangerous ADC in another party. Is that a leadership trait? Is that a leadership character? And he wants you to vote for him. It is not for banana. He cannot put a house in order,” Tinubu said.
The rally served as a platform for the President to rally support for the APC and highlight the party’s achievements ahead of the upcoming elections.
