A preliminary investigation into last month’s fatal Air India crash has revealed that both fuel control switches, crucial for keeping the engines running—were moved to the cut-off position moments before the aircraft went down, effectively shutting off its power midair.

The report, released by aviation authorities, points to a possible miscommunication or error in the cockpit. According to the cockpit voice recorder, one pilot was heard asking his colleague, “Why did you do the cut-off?” to which the other pilot responded in confusion, insisting he had not done so. This exchange suggests neither pilot was fully aware of the action that ultimately led to engine failure and the crash.

The tragedy claimed the lives of at least 260 people, with only one survivor, British national Vishwashkumar Ramesh, who miraculously escaped the wreckage through a torn section of the aircraft’s fuselage.

An Air India spokesperson stated that the airline continues to “fully cooperate” with investigators and reiterated its commitment to supporting the victims’ families and uncovering the full truth behind the disaster.
