The United Nations Food Programme says nearly one in three people in the Gaza Strip are enduring days without food.
This stark warning issued by the WFP comes as the region’s humanitarian crisis deepens amid ongoing conflict.
In a statement released this week, the WFP highlighted a severe rise in hunger levels across the war-torn enclave, stating that “malnutrition is surging, with 90,000 women and children in urgent need of treatment.”
The warning follows mounting reports of starvation-related deaths in the Palestinian territory. For instance, on Friday alone, nine more individuals died from malnutrition, according to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza, pushing the total number of such fatalities since the war began to 122.
The escalating food insecurity has drawn global concern, with aid organisations urging for unimpeded access to vulnerable populations. However, Israel which maintains control over Gaza’s border crossings and all incoming supplies, denies any restrictions on humanitarian aid and blames Hamas for the dire conditions.
