Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced a spirited second-half comeback to defeat Morocco 3–2 in a gripping Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Final encounter on Saturday.
The win propelled the Nigerian senior women football team to their 10th WAFCON title.
Recall that the Moroccans stormed into an early lead with Ghizlane Chebbak’s strike in the 12th minute, followed by a second from Sanaâ Mssoudy in the 24th, putting the North African side firmly in control at halftime.
But the Super Falcons roared back with renewed energy and purpose in the second half, delivering a dramatic turnaround that left fans on the edge of their seats.
Esther Okoronkwo had ignited the comeback when she calmly converted a penalty in the 64th minute. Just seven minutes later, Folashade Florence Ijamilusi struck the equaliser, sending Nigerian supporters into celebration.
With momentum firmly in their favour, Nigeria kept pressing, and their persistence paid off in the 88th minute when Jennifer Echegini slotted home the winner, sealing a famous victory.
