Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, is expected to step down from his position after securing approval from President Bola Tinubu to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.

The development follows a meeting between the minister and the President on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where Adelabu presented a detailed briefing on his performance in the power sector over the past two and a half years.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, the minister highlighted key policy initiatives, including the National Integrated Electricity Policy and its Strategic Implementation Plan.

Adelabu was said to have outlined achievements recorded under his leadership, such as efforts to stabilise electricity generation, improve transmission capacity, and implement reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency across the power value chain.

The statement confirmed that the minister will resign in the coming days to focus on his political ambition.
