Nollywood faith-based film Agbara Nla has grossed ₦354.5 million at the Nigerian box office since its cinema release on October 1, according to its distributor, Nile Entertainment.
The remake of the 33-year-old Christian film classic produced by Mount Zion also recorded an opening weekend gross of $120,660 in selected cinemas in the United Kingdom and Canada.
The film was co-produced by Mount Zion Film Productions, Sozo Films and Circuits, with international distribution across Europe handled in partnership with IFEC.
Nile Entertainment disclosed the figures in a statement on Tuesday, announcing that three of its distributed titles occupied the top three positions at the Nigerian weekend box office.
Agbara Nla led the ranking with ₦47.50 million, followed by Street Fighter, which grossed ₦36.43 million, and The Other Mummy, which earned ₦8.67 million. The three films generated a combined ₦92.61 million, accounting for 58.9 per cent of total weekend box office revenue, while the distributor’s entire slate contributed 68 per cent.
The company attributed Agbara Nla’s commercial success to a marketing campaign that combined nostalgia for the original production with efforts to attract younger audiences.
According to the distributor, the campaign featured engagement with the Mount Zion community, endorsements from church leaders and online promotional activities. These efforts reportedly generated more than ₦71 million in advance ticket sales in a single day.
Nile Entertainment also said the film had achieved several milestones among Nollywood releases in the United Kingdom, including the biggest Nollywood release of 2026, the highest opening weekend, the largest pre-sales and the biggest-ever faith-based Nollywood film.
Meanwhile, Street Fighter and The Other Mummy, both released in cinemas on October 16, were promoted through marketing campaigns tailored to their respective genres and target audiences.
The distributor said the performance of the three films demonstrated the importance of developing distinct promotional strategies based on a production’s genre, cultural relevance and audience appeal.
Nile Entertainment General Manager, Nowe Segun-Ojo, said the results reflected the company’s distribution strategy since it commenced operations in August 2024.
Segun-Ojo described having three titles occupy the top three positions at the weekend box office as an encouraging achievement for the relatively young company, adding that it would continue working with production and studio partners to build on the progress.
