The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda as its new National Chairman, following the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje, former Kano State governor, who stepped down citing health-related concerns.
Prof. Yilwatda, a seasoned engineer and politician, brings a unique blend of technical expertise and political experience to the role. He holds a Master’s degree in Engineering from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, and a PhD in Digital Systems Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He also received international training in e-governance at the United Nations University in Macau, China.
A former governorship candidate of the APC in Plateau State during the 2023 elections, Yilwatda played a key role as the state coordinator for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign.
His emergence as national chairman is seen as part of efforts by the ruling party to bolster its leadership with technocratic strength and grassroots political experience.
Born on August 8, 1968, in Dungung, Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, he is the son of the late Rev and Mrs. Toma Yilwatda. He studied Electrical/Electronic Engineering at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, graduating in 1992.
Yilwatda is widely regarded as a reform-minded figure with strong interests in governance innovation and digital infrastructure, positioning him as a strategic choice for the APC ahead of Nigeria’s next electoral cycle.
