The Lagos State chapter of the Allied Peoples Movement has re-elected Mrs Bunmi Adeyemo and 16 others as members of its state executive committee ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party executives emerged through consensus during the party’s state congress held in the Yaba area of Lagos, with delegates and supporters in attendance.

The congress also witnessed the presence of several leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, who announced an alliance with APM leaders as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.

Speaking during the exercise on Monday, the Chairman of the Congress Committee, Mr Godwin Williamson, praised delegates and party leaders for the peaceful conduct of the congress.

Williamson explained that the executives were returned through consensus to promote unity, stability, and cooperation within the party in Lagos State.

Announcing the composition of the executive committee, he said Mr Gabriel Iwatamaye emerged as Deputy Chairman, while Mr Abiodun Abari was elected Secretary.

Other officials include Halimat Abdulrafiu as Assistant Secretary, Akeem Kolapo as Organising Secretary, Ayodele Kazeem as Publicity Secretary, Tajudeen Alatishe as Treasurer, Aminat Yusuf as Women Leader, Zainab Adeyemi as Youth Leader, and Mrs Caroline Karounwi-Adebamiro as Legal Adviser.

Williamson also named Moruf Ogunrinu as Assistant Organising Secretary, Nurudeen Awolumate as Vice Chairman (West), Tajudeen Oyinloye as Vice Chairman (Central), and Segun Okutade as Vice Chairman (East), while Lateef Oki, Adeniji Dacosta, and Hassan Shambakiu emerged as ex officio members.

He urged the newly elected executives to remain committed to promoting the ideals and programmes of the party across the state.

According to Williamson, the congress, monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, became necessary ahead of party primaries and the 2027 general elections.

He also advised the executives to make the party attractive to Nigerians seeking a credible political platform for future elections.

Speaking after taking the Oaths of Allegiance and Office, Adeyemo thanked party leaders and delegates for the confidence reposed in her leadership.

She pledged to lead the party effectively and expressed optimism about the APM’s growing popularity in Lagos State.

According to her, Nigerians are increasingly seeking leaders with credibility and capacity to improve their welfare rather than relying on political dominance.

Adeyemo added that the party already has aspirants interested in contesting governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly seats in 2027.

Also speaking, a PDP chieftain and member of the alliance, Dr Adetokunbo Pearse, described the coalition with the APM as a strategic democratic move aimed at providing Nigerians with an alternative political platform.

Pearse said the alliance was necessary to strengthen opposition politics and challenge what he described as poor governance by the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He added that the coalition would mobilise supporters across political divides ahead of the 2027 elections both in Lagos State and across the country.
