Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Mohammed disclosed his decision on Saturday after what he described as extensive consultations with political stakeholders, citing internal instability and recent legal setbacks as key factors behind his exit.
According to the governor, the situation within the PDP worsened following a recent Supreme Court of Nigeria judgment on the party’s leadership dispute, which he said left the party without clear direction.
Sources also indicate that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde may soon follow suit, as tensions continue to mount within the party. Although no official confirmation has been made, insiders say consultations are ongoing.
Both Mohammed and Makinde are prominent figures within a faction of the PDP aligned with Tanimu Turaki, whose 2025 Ibadan convention was recently invalidated by the Supreme Court, a development widely seen as a major blow to the group’s influence.
