The Bauchi State Governor , Bala Mohammed has directed security agencies to take decisive action against anyone involved in illegal mining, warning that the activity is fueling insecurity across the state.
He made the call while receiving the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Major General Maxwell Dangana, during a courtesy visit at the Government House.
The governor expressed concern over the increasing activities of illegal miners, stressing the need for stronger intelligence gathering and greater collaboration among neighbouring states to curb the problem.
Governor Mohammed noted that the state is facing challenges from some influential individuals and stakeholders who are allegedly involved in illegal mining because of its huge financial benefits.
He assured the GOC of the Bauchi State Government’s continued support for the military in its efforts to improve security.
