Popular Ibadan-based broadcaster and philanthropist Oriyomi Hamzat has officially announced his intention to run for the governorship of Oyo State under the banner of the Accord Party.
The ceremony, held at the historic Obafemi Awolowo Stadium (Liberty Stadium) in Ibadan, drew a massive crowd of supporters clad in yellow, who chanted “Oyo n pe o” (Oyo is calling you) and filled the venue with music, drumming, and enthusiastic celebrations. The turnout marked one of the largest political gatherings in the state in recent years.
Hamzat, who arrived in a convoy amid tight security and waved to the crowd from an open-roof vehicle, stated that his entry into politics was driven by a “clarion call of the people.” In his declaration speech, he emphasized his independence from political godfathers, asserting, “My only backing is from God Almighty.”
He thereafter officially declared his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship election under the Accord Party.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the national executives of the Accord Party, the chairman of the Hamzat movement, representatives of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and various community leaders.
Many in attendance praised Hamzat’s longstanding humanitarian work and his contributions to grassroots welfare across Oyo State.
Community leaders speaking at the event expressed strong support for his candidacy, citing his accessibility and commitment to public service as key reasons for their endorsement.
