A fire outbreak on Tuesday morning destroyed six rooms in Akinsoji zone, Ogbere Moradeyo, Oremeji community, Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Eyewitnesses said the inferno, which started around 5:30 a.m., was caused by the careless disposal of a cigarette stub by one of the occupants of the building.
A resident who identified as Tunji Bamgbade told The PUNCH that although no lives were lost, property worth millions of naira was destroyed before firefighters arrived.
“Six rooms were affected before the arrival of firefighters, while properties worth millions of naira were also destroyed,” he said.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said the emergency was reported at about 5:55 a.m. by a caller identified as Mr. Kayode.
“Immediately the address was taken, firemen led by CFS Adesina Olusoji promptly deployed to the place. On getting there, it was a private residential building of six rooms engulfed by fire, and our officers swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to other nearby buildings,” Akinwande said.
