The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has established a directorate to monitor the inflow and outflow of state government funds as part of efforts to prevent corruption and financial crimes.
The Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyode, disclosed this while delivering a special lecture to mark the 30th anniversary of Zamfara State in Gusau.
He said the EFCC is shifting towards preventing financial crimes rather than focusing solely on prosecuting offenders after public funds had been misappropriated.
He said the newly established directorate will monitor state government finances to prevent the diversion and embezzlement of public resources.
Olukoyode also disclosed that EFCC officials had been included in meetings of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to monitor allocations to state governments.
