The Federal Government has amended the charge against a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Abubakar Malami, before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The defendants are now facing a five-count amended charge bordering on alleged terrorism-related offences and unlawful possession of firearms.
The amended charge was read before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, following which the former charge was struck out after there was no objection from the defence.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all counts.
Their counsel subsequently requested that they be allowed to enjoy the bail earlier granted by the court.
The request was not opposed by the prosecution and was accordingly granted.
Counsel to the defendants, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Adedayo Adedeji, confirmed that the defence team had been served with the amended charge and would study it before taking further steps.
Recall that the court had on February 27 granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200 million each, with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned until May 26 for the prosecution to open its case and call witnesses.
The defendants were initially arraigned on February 3 on a five-count charge bordering on alleged terrorism financing and unlawful possession of arms and ammunition.
