A former chairmanship candidate for Eti-Osa Local Government, John Ademola Akano, has called for increased public interest in local government elections, describing them as the foundation of grassroots politics.
Speaking during an interview on Adamimogo 93.1 FM Lagos, Ademola expressed concern over the low voter turnout that often characterises council polls. He noted that politics requires active participation and strategic engagement from citizens to shape meaningful outcomes.
He also urged residents to demand accountability from local government officials, stressing the importance of transparency in the management of public funds.
Commenting on national leadership, he said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made efforts but has fallen short of expectations, particularly in areas such as infrastructure and the cost of living.
Ademola further encouraged Nigerian youths to stay politically engaged, rebuild the momentum from the 2023 general elections, and mobilise towards greater participation ahead of the 2027 polls.
