Four secondary schools have secured places in the grand finale of the second edition of Dare2Debate, scheduled to hold on October 24 at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
The finalists emerged from a preliminary round held on October 17 at CMS Grammar School, Bariga, Lagos, where seven schools competed in a series of knockout debates.
The qualifying schools are CMS Grammar School, Golden Heights International School, Dazzille College and Bishop Howells Memorial Grammar School.
The competition is organised by The Dare2Debate Initiative, a subsidiary of HACmedia, a media organisation committed to promoting communication, intellectual development and opportunities for young Nigerians.
The grand finale will take place at the Education Hall of the University of Lagos, bringing together students and guests from different backgrounds to witness the contestants demonstrate their critical thinking, public speaking and argumentative skills.
Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, the Team Lead, Davies Ikpoyi, popularly known as MC Davies, said the competition was designed to encourage students to think critically, express themselves confidently and develop a stronger interest in learning.
He explained that the second edition was expected to attract a diverse audience and further demonstrate the potential of students to excel when provided with the right platform and enabling environment.
According to him, Dare2Debate seeks to go beyond a conventional school competition by equipping young people with skills that can support their academic development and prepare them for future leadership responsibilities.
The October 24 finale will mark the culmination of this year’s preliminary contests, with the four schools set to compete for the ultimate prize.
