Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pledged to deliver the state for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, following his official registration as a member of the All Progressives Congress.
The governor made the declaration on Friday at the Government House in Port Harcourt after receiving his APC membership card from the state party chairman, Tony Okocha.
Fubara, who formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday, said his move to the ruling party was in the interest of Rivers State’s progress. He also promised to assume responsibility for the welfare and needs of the APC in the state.
“As the party’s leader in Rivers, I will do everything to keep the ruling party active, including ensuring that members of the state executive are properly taken care of,” he stated.
The governor added that his leadership would make it easier to galvanize support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Fubara’s defection came days after 17 lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly also switched allegiance to the APC, further consolidating the party’s foothold in the oil-rich state.
